Father and son

Ketil Lehland, my friend for most of my life, and I, try to attend the Bislet Games every year. This is the big athletics event in Norway every year, and we have witnessed several world records and top international athletes and results. This year we were there for The Diamond League where I think Asafa Powells 9.72 on 100 meters and David Rudishas 1.42.04 on 800 meters were the peaks of the evening. We were also happy to see our javelin thrower, Andreas Thorkildsen, win  with 86.00 meters. Not a top result, maybe, but the wind did not cooperate this time.

But this is really not about what happened inside the arena, Because, as many people do not know, outside there is a sculpture of a special significance to my CISV-friend, Ketil. The model for the sculpture outside Bislet Bad (bath) was Ketils father! And here is the image that shows Ketil at the sculpture. He quickly calculated that his father was not even 20 years old when the sculpture was made.
