Thank you for this picture. Stromness has to be my favourite town in the British Isles and you’ve brought back delightful memories.
You’ve really captured the stark grayness of the buildings and the way they climb up the hill facing the water. I wonder what that splash of red is in the middle? A red sheet hung out to dry? Can you tell if you enlarge the picture?
Curious how the houses on the “upper level” all face the water, but those closest to it treat it as a back yard, presumably facing the street.
And maybe putting the larger windows on the other side to avoid the salty water hitting them?
