Castlebay

When you cross the Minch from Oban to Barra, the southernmost island in the Outer Hebrides, you will land in Castlebay. As you can see, Martin, Simen and myself did so in not very pleasant weather. We just went on northwards looking for a nice place to stay in our campervan. When you arrive in Castlebay, the castle in the bay is a well-known landmark, the Kisimul Castle.

  1. There is a Gaelic folk song, also translated into English, called Kishmul’s Galley. Kishmul was apparently a 14th-century pirate, and the song is about him and his “heroes” returning to his castle after a successful raid. A haunting tune. You can hear it on Youtube sung by the Corries.
