Biltur i 1947

Cartrip 1947. Since my father had dug down the wheels of this Chevrolet 1933 when the war started, the Germans had not confiscated it. Hence we had a car when the war ended and could use in on holidays to the mountains.

  1. A wonderful photo. What are the headcoverings your mother and her mother are wearing? Kerchiefs? If so, they are tied in a way unfamiliar to me.

    • I never thought about it, because it was how they did it. I think maybe, since we did not stay in hotels, that they did not wash their hair every day on such a trip, but “instead” used a scarf to bind it up.

      • Clean hair or not, the women used scarves while working with food to prevent hairs from falling into the food. And I suppose they just got used to wear them and only took them off when they were dressing up. Which was seldom …

  2. Koselig “rasteplass” de hadde funnet…
Steinrøys, steinrøys svelt i hjel, heter det vel i sangen. Men her svelter de visst ikke…
